About the Deeside Art Group

Annual Exhibition

Our annual exhibition celebrates the work of our local artistic community and showcases the work of our members.

Founded in 1947 after a summer exhibition sponsored by Hoylake Civic Society, the Deeside Art Group has been supporting artists in the area for 77 years.

Since that first year, we have held an exhibition annually to showcase the work of our talented members.

Over the years, one of the key features of the group was that selection to exhibit was a requirement for membership. This was considered a mechanism for maintaining high standards in the exhibition (and indeed, the membership!)

The interruption of activities due to the global pandemic has provided an opportunity for some reflection on the the needs of our members and of the wider art community in Wirral.

As 2022 saw our 75th anniversary, it seemed an opportune time to adjust our approach to the exhibition, and to our membership more generally.

Moving forward, we will be opening up membership to all who apply. That way, everyone will be able to benefit from the support and opportunities offered by the group including discounted workshops and the opportunity to submit pieces to our annual exhibition. We feel this better reflects who we are and how we want to move forward as a group.

Our annual exhibition will still be subject to a selection committee. Pieces by members old and new will be considered. Since 2022 we have also opened up the exhibition to photographs and pottery as well as the previously included ‘picture’ categories. Pieces will be selected based on creativity, originality, quality of artistic composition and technical skill displayed in the chosen medium.
