The History of Deeside Art Group

This brief introduction to Deeside Art Group is taken from the catalogue of the exhibition marking DAG's 50th anniversary:

The Deeside Art Group was founded in 1947, after a summer exhibition sponsored by the Hoylake Civic Society and housed in the Central Hall, Hoylake. The original chairman was Mrs. Millicent E. Ayrton, in whose capable hands, for many years, the Group flourished.

To encourage young people, the Group held a children's exhibition with the adult show. Later, due to a bequest, the Fazackerly Award was given to children for pictures of animals. Subsequently it was thought more appropriate to give annual prizes to students of the Metropolitan College of Art. Thanks to the generosity of patrons (several of them being local businesses), prizes are now presented to around half a dozen exhibitors.

Since those days, the Deeside Art Group has grown and blossomed, the care taken in presenting an exhibition of high standard art works, has helped it to gain the reputation it now has as one of the best annual exhibitions on the Wirral.
